I felt like this book dragged a little。 I loved the premise and I loved the ending, but it was a little boring at times。

Maggie Dawson has done it again。 She manages to write cute, flirty romances with lots of substance and quirkiness, and a little bit of magic。 I loved reading about Phronsie’s past (I love that the protagonist is named Phronsie!) and how it helped shape her into who she is today。 The romance is sprinkled in in the most delightful way。 This is a great pick when you want a light, but not fluffy, read。

The Build-up was Almost Worth ItOften my complaints about these types of novels were about the lack of character and plot development - this was the opposite in such a way that it was difficult to stay engaged。 I stuck it out through the long flashbacks or backstroke and tried to shift gears when I would have enjoyed a better flow between then and now。 I may be done with this genre as I got impatient with how long the。characters toke to come to their senses。 I enjoyed the rather quick conclusion The Build-up was Almost Worth ItOften my complaints about these types of novels were about the lack of character and plot development - this was the opposite in such a way that it was difficult to stay engaged。 I stuck it out through the long flashbacks or backstroke and tried to shift gears when I would have enjoyed a better flow between then and now。 I may be done with this genre as I got impatient with how long the。characters toke to come to their senses。 I enjoyed the rather quick conclusion when all finally were owning their truth - just a bit exhausting to get there! 。。。more

Great storytelling The story made me laugh so many times but I absolutely detest Maggie and Phronsie’s Dad。 I feel sorry for anyone who grows up with parents like that。

A nice bit of escapism I read this book as one of Amazon's First Reads。Phronsie grew up in a fairly chaotic way。 She got married to the love of her life which ended in infidelity on her husband's part after nine months。 So after 44 dates with a succession of losers, Phronsie is shocked when Judd proposes。 He argues that they are best friends and get on great, so rather than keep dating and go through all the bother, why not get hitched? Thereafter we learn about her parents who met at Woodstock in 1969, about her upbringing and her relationships with her family growing up, and how it probably influenced her life choices。It fairly predictable (especially when a work trip to Charleston comes up) but it was well written and I liked all of the characters。 Worth a punt。 。。。more

EntertainingThis is a fun read, with laughs and tears, a pretty unique story, and some predictability。 No idea if the Woodstock descriptions are accurate。

A Happy ReadI enjoyed The Magic of Found Objects。 The backdrop of the Woodstock generation was authentic and the characters were relatable。 I loved Phronsie…and yes, I too loved Five Little Peppers and How They Grew, just like Tenaj。 And I would love to go back in time to see Jimi Hendrix and his amazing guitar playing。 Best of all, the ending made me smile!I too, have a gnome collection…although mine don’t hibernate。 I love a book that leaves you feeling good and this one did just that。

Coming of age in your mid30s & healing old woundsHow often we make what we think are the right decisions, only to find out they are warped by fear and confusion。 But, if you open yourself to possibilities, and forgive yourself, and others, a whole new understanding lightens your life。 A MUST read!

Hmmmm…well not sorry I read it, but wouldn’t necessarily tell someone to spend time reading it。 Good plot of what is love and marriage。 However, the author has inconsistent character development。 They ricochet back and forth on the point of view they represent, and the ending is contrived and a bit pat。 I was actually rooting for the other guy to work out!

**Spoilers** I love Maddie Dawson books and this one kept me interested and was a quick read for me。 For some reason, I really wanted Phronsie and Judd to truly fall in love and realize they belonged together。 Instead it was a predictable ending。 I just never felt the Adam character - and they only had a short "drunken" time together。 That is the only reason I gave this 4 stars! 。。。more

It's a bit goofyI finished the book more out of loyalty than interest。 The story is unusual , something to read to fill in the time。 A bit rambling, but fun。 It's a bit goofyI finished the book more out of loyalty than interest。 The story is unusual , something to read to fill in the time。 A bit rambling, but fun。 。。。more

WOW did I adore this book。 It's a rollercoaster that's just simply HUMAN。 It's a beautify story about family and the difficult relationship so many of us have with not just love itself, but the idea of love and how those around us continuously shape and affect that relationship。 A must read! I loved the characters and the hippie vibe of the story。 I mean the main characters name is Phronsie and her and her twin Hendrix were conceived at Woodstock。 I’ve been obsessed with Woodstock since I was a teenager。 I mean Who else would have an actual picture of the famous photo hanging in her book room to use for a photo? Maybe me and Maddie? I enjoyed every part of this book and I’m sad it’s over。 5 ⭐️’s for me。 Then:Phronsie and her twin Hendrix were conceived at Woodstock when two total strangers got caught up in the music and free love flowing。 A small town farm boy and an artsy hippie could never make it work, and so they went their separate ways early in the marriage。 Phronsie loves spending the summer with her mom and all the quirky artist types who live together but when Hendrix gets hurt and their dad comes to get them, the conditions they find are not suitable for children, and the relationship with their mother ends。 Now:Phronsie loves her job, her New York apartment and family although that’s another story。 Her nights are mainly spent working on her book with her dog cuddled up next to her, online dating, or talking to her childhood best friend Judd。 After too many bad dates Judd proposes an idea to Phronsie, maybe they should get married。 They know everything about each other and have friends in common, their families are friends, and it just makes sense。 The problem is that they aren’t in love。 They love each other, but not the kind of love that gives you goosebumps or makes you feel all tingly inside when your close to them kind-of love。 As far as they both can see with their close friends and family people fall out of that kind of love anyways so at least they know it’ll work because they’re best friends。 Can you have a relationship without being in love? It was good until the end and then it sort of felt rushed and fizzled out。

David Richardson

This book was slow in the beginning, good in the middle, but ran out of gas at the end。 You will see it coming。

Predictable but fun。

Two friends sick of searching for love decide to marry each other? I knew as soon as I read the synopsis this was going to go one of two ways - either end in utter disaster or happily ever after。 Thankfully, it was the latter。I adored Phronsie's character from the start。 I loved her wit, her writing aspirations, her go-getter attitude。。。 really all of it。 I loved the family dynamic, her back story, her friendship with Jude, and the adventures of going from best friends to lovers。 But what I real Two friends sick of searching for love decide to marry each other? Such colorful characters。 A fun read that goes present day back the the main characters childhood。 It was a great plot and the romance was sweet。 I enjoyed the writing and was a little disappointed that it ended so fast。I hope you will grab a copy of this 4 star read。 I recommend it。The Mary Reader received this book from the publisher for review。 A favorable review was not required and all views expressed are our own。

I loved this sweet little book in which the magic of true love is discovered。 Light reading。 Mood elevator。 Does this true love still exist? I certainly hope so!

Charming storyI enjoyed Matchmaking for Beginners so I thought I would try this one。 I was drawn into Phronsie's world-- I related to her childhood with an unconventional mother, and I was definitely drawn into the story, but I was also left feeling unresolved。 I wanted to feel more of a connection with any of male characters。 To me, they all fell flat and almost over edited。 I feel like I either wanted her to explore more into the dynamics of her mothers or more into the romance of the story。 I Charming storyI enjoyed Matchmaking for Beginners so I thought I would try this one。 I was drawn into Phronsie's world-- I related to her childhood with an unconventional mother, and I was definitely drawn into the story, but I was also left feeling unresolved。 I wanted to feel more of a connection with any of male characters。 To me, they all fell flat and almost over edited。 I feel like I either wanted her to explore more into the dynamics of her mothers or more into the romance of the story。 It seemed to not dip enough into one side or the other and kept me from being fully invested。 It was a good story, but won't be a chronic reread。 。。。more

Have you ever made a deal with a friend that if you reached such and such age, and both of y'all were still single, that you'd just marry up and be done with it all? Sounds romantic, eh? Haha -but I do understand the tiredness of dating "later in life" (*ahem*)。 And don't we want our partner to be our best friend?! The lesson I took away is that just because you're not living your life the way other people may。。。 it doesn't mean you're living it wrong。It's pretty obvious where this book is going and as a contemporary romance, you get what you expect to get。 While I enjoyed the story overall, I wasn't wowed by it。 I'm not sure exactly what didn't quite mesh for me。。。 but I'm with Phronsie, fireworks are necessary。。 。。。more

“When you are raised by people who got love wrong, you just want to do it better。”I am stingy with 5 Stars, but this one deserves all of them! Certainly, one of the top novels I’ve read this year。 Maddie Dawson’s original, vulnerable voice speaks to me, AND her writing just keeps getting better and better。 I am betting we would get along famously, ya know, if she didn’t live thousands of miles away。 😉

What a lovely surprise。 Quick read, fun romp, adore the Woodstock story and all the love stories and all the Mothers, in their own imperfection but, juicy characters。
